Back from Thialand. Had an absolutely fabulous time. It's even more fun than K.L. :D It was still impossibly hot but most times there was a pretty nice breeze too so it didn't feel as bad. We crammed in so much in just a few days so I won't bore you all with details. But highlights. This weekend was Songkran - Thia New Year - which we didn't know until we got there. Everyone celebrates with 'water splashing'. And smearing a chalk like powder on the face but that stuff gets everywhere! :) We got completely soaked and covered the first day we were there - and that was just for the short walk from where the Tuk Tuk dropped us off too the Grand Palace (v. pretty, BTW). My jeans still haven't dried out. Despite the sun. This is how wet we were. The second morning we went to a market and got covered again so we decided to join in. We bought water gun and some of the powder stuff. And 'splashed' back. It was great. Basically a MASSIVE water fight on all the main roads! Everyone was in a good mood and smiling and hugging us randomly. I can't remember the last time I giggled so much.

Ohh our last night there we went on a dinner cruise down the Chao Phraya river. My first dinner cruise! That was also fun. We were being incredibly vain and dressed up and spent about an hour each on oour hair and make-up! *hides* The food was delicious. The Grand Palace and all the temples along it (though we'd seen them before when we went to the Floating Market) looked amazing lit up in the night. The music was pretty dire though. Lots of ABBA and Celione Dion! But that just made us laugh mainly and the band was good (when the singer took breaks) - especially the Sax player.

Other interesting things we did:
  • The Ancient City - a mini Thialand. Very, very cool. But we had to go rush it as we needed to get to the airport. Of course than the plane was delayed by THREE HOURS (Thank you Air Asia). We didn't get back until 2am and started at 7am this morning. Actually my head hurts :)
  • Night Market - HUGE! Lots of people. azicrow would have hated it! LOL :D It was about 12 times the size of the one in KL though. Yes we did spent most of our time shopping.
  • A tour of the temples - that took all day. But then there are 460 of them. (No we didn't go to all - but we drove past most and stopped at a few.)

Anyway back here til Thursday then off to Penang for the weekend. YAY!

P.S. *cries* Everyone is talking about new Dr. Who! Not fair! I want to watch! </ end whine>

ETA: Oh i forgot to mention - Thai Taxi Drivers! Wow I've never come across a more useless group of people in my life. They don't know where anything is. Seriously. When we were trying to get to the Grand Palace - which has to rank pretty high on the popular tourist attraction list, three taxis turned us down because they didnt know where it was. The really funny thing was it was only about 10 mins away from the hotel! And no of them ever knew where our hotel was, despite the fact that we had it highlighted on a map, with Thai directions! At worst it took us asking 8 drivers and the last one just kinda took pity on us and took us to the right area, then we got a tuk tuk! LOL! You have to wander how these people make a living :D
    Current Mood: enthralledenthralled
Current Music: Celione Dion - LOL!

The water fight was great. But they wouldn't let me bring the gun back on the airplane. Apparently toy guns count as a 'Risk item'!!! The food was lovely but couldn't eat any meat!

Ooh, glad to hear that you had a fantastic time in Thailand. The food there is great, the people are friendly and the country's lovely. I personally think it's a much nicer place than Malaysia, but I'm Malaysian so I can say that!

Shopping is great too - I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves.

And yes, the new Doctor is fantabulous... I'm sure you'll catch up when you get back! Tennant seriously rocks :D

I don't think it's better. Just the novelty of KL has worn off a bit whereas Bangkok was only a four day holiday :D
